Installing a garage door on your own (DIY) isn't an impossible challenge if done with the right know with all, tools, and if you have the patience and time. Installing your own garage door will save you money and give you the personal satisfaction.
If you're installing the door with a torsion spring system it is greatly safer than the older torsion model. The standard torsion spring systems used in garage doors have much more tension and can cause serious injury if they break while you're doing the installation. If you have this system please do not attempt the installation by yourself and consult a trusted garage door installation professional Below are the steps for a a sectional garage door installation. Before you begin this project a power drill with a screwdriver tip will come in very handy along with a person to help lift and steady the heavy sections.Step one- Attach weather stripping to the bottom side of the first door panel. Put the panel in the garage doorway and put it in place by hammering nails halfway into every door jamb (not at a direct angle so that they squeeze the garage door into position). Finally for step one, attach the door hinges at the top edge of the door.Step two- Put together the tracks. The instructions that came with the garage door will be greatly helpful for this.Step three- Put on the rollers and brackets on the garage door section and wall. At one side of the doorway slip the vertical track onto the rollers of the first section. Do the same for the other side.Step four- Put on the rollers into the second section. With a person to help lift up the section,Donald Driver Jersey, place it correctly, then slip the rollers into the vertical tracks on both sides of the garage doorway.Step five- Fasten the first section hinges to the second section.Step six- Put in the third section. You can use the same steps as above for this. Use a quality level to make sure the horizontal sections are even and don't forget to make sure the vertical brackets are lining up precise. The top plates of both vertical brackets need to be secured to the wall. Use your power drill with screwdriver tool tip for faster results. Ensure that the screws go deep because the doors exert great force when moving up and down.Step seven- Install the jam brackets to the tracks and fasten them down to the vertical framing members. Make sure the lag screws go down into the second framing portion. They don't need to be screwed down too tightly yet because adjustments might need to be made.Step eight- Install the curved and horizontal tracks. Check the pieces and make sure that they are level after installed.Step nine- Cut the rear track hanger piece to the length required for supporting the track. Screw the track hanger to sturdy framing such as a ceiling joist or blocking, and then loosely mount the track to the hanger. Repeat with the horizontal track on the other side. Finally, put the last door section into place taking out any temporary nails you see.
Step ten- You can now install a torque tube. If your going to be using an opener don't install it yet but if not you can install the tube. Install the torque tube using the instructions that came with it or get them from the manufacturer.Step eleven- Roll up the door a few feet and check for any miss-alignments. Tighten the screws for the tracks as needed. Your done! Enjoy your new working door.
